Types of Property Crimes

| Apr 2, 2010 | Criminal Defense

The term “property crimes” can apply to two separate classifications of crimes. First, it applies to those crimes committed on another person’s
property or against another person’s property. Vandalism, loitering, trespassing, arson, and breaking and entering are all examples of property
crimes in which some type of damage is to done to the property.

The other classification of property crimes is more similar to left. These types of property crimes include burglary, robbery, armed robbery, embezzlement, shoplifting, etc. The penalties associated with these charges depend on
the value of the stolen goods. In the state Georgia, when the value of the stolen property equals $500 or more, the suspect will be charged with
grand theft, a felony. If the value of the stolen property is less than $500, petty theft charges will apply, a misdemeanor.
