Mother Arrested in Fatal DUI Accident That Killed Daughter

A Grayson woman has been arrested on multiple charges following a deadly DUI accident that took the life of her young daughter.

Alicia Tubman was driving with her three-year-old daughter Jayla on a windy portion of Ga. Highway 124 in Dacula when she lost control of her Toyota Highlander. Tubman struck a fire hydrant and a tree before her vehicle eventually came to a stop. That’s when it caught on fire.

A bystander was able to pull Tubman from the wreck, but was unable to reach Jayla, who was strapped in her car seat. An autopsy revealed Jayla was burned to death.

It was later determined that Tubman’s blood alcohol concentration was more than .24 percent, nearly three times the legal limit. The BAC limit in Georgia is .08 percent.

Tubman was arrested and taken into custody, where she has been charged with vehicular homicide, cruelty to children, DUI, reckless driving, and reckless conduct. She is still in police custody where she remains without bond.
