New Cell Phone Law to Take Effect on July 1 in Georgia

In the state of Georgia, drivers will have to put their cell phones down and keep their attention on the road. As of July 1st, a new ban against texting while driving will take effect.
With the new law, drivers will be prohibited from reading, typing or sending texts while they are driving. Drivers are also prohibited from texting while stopped or at a red light. If drivers are caught texting while driving by law enforcement, they will be cited with a traffic infraction and face a fine of $100.
Additionally, the new law allows adult drivers to use the cell phone keypad to dial numbers while they are driving. However, young drivers that have provisional licenses are not allows to use their cell phones at all while driving. If young drivers are caught utilizing their cell phones while driving, police may issue them with a $150 fine.
