DUI Charges Against Chairman Bannister Dropped

In Gwinnett County, it is reported that the driving under the influence charged that were filed against Commission Chairman Charles Bannister have been dropped. Tests determined that he had no alcohol in his blood stream when he was arrested for drunk driving this Monday.

On Thursday, Gwinnett County Sherriff Butch Conway told news sources blood tests for Mr. Bannister had a result of zero, which matched the result of the breathalyzer test.

During evening hours, Bannister was stopped by officers after he left Lilburn restaurant. According to deputies, he was driving erratically, which is why they conducted a traffic stop. Despite the results of the breath test, they chose to arrest Bannister.

Sherriff Conway has requested that all charges against Bannister be dropped and he said that the case will remain under internal investigation.

Kelsey Grammer Announces Divorce on Twitter

On Thursday, actor Kelsey Grammer took to social networking site Twitter to announce his divorce from his wife, Camille.

Man Gets 274 Months in Federal Prison for Drug Crimes

In Albany this week, a man received a prison sentence of 274 months. 37 year old Joe Johnson III was sentenced after he pled guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Johnson was sentenced to the Federal Bureau of Prisons by District Judge W. Louis Sands. Sands said, "Johnson's four previous sentences for distribution of controlled substances and crimes of violence had not deterred him from this type of conduct." He also said that following Johnson's release from prison, he would have to be supervised for eight years.

According to a spokeswoman from the from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Johnson will have to serve his full jail sentence as there is no parole in the federal system.

On June 13, 2007, Johnson was arrested after having outstanding warrants. At the time of his arrest, he possessed 16.7 grams of cocaine hydrochloride and 17.6 grams of "crack cocaine".

Adoptive Mother Loses Child Custody

In Orange County, California, it is reported that a mother who adopted a child lost custody after the biological father said that he wanted child custody.

Prior to the decision, attorneys in California and Ohio were on a conference call. All parties were trying to decide if the adoptive mother, 45 year old Stacey Doss, would be able to keep custody of her adopted daughter whom she raised from birth. University of Georgia Wanted for Felony Theft

In Athens, Georgia, police with the University of Georgia report that they are searching for a UGA employee that has been charged with felony theft. The employee allegedly stole from the school's bursar office.

On Wednesday, a warrant was issued in Ashley Nicole Threlkeld's name for one count of theft by taking. According to University Police Chief Jimmy Williamson, Threlkeld had worked as a teller at the UGA's bursar office and she handled cash transactions for students and employees. He said that Threlkeld stole $1,798 last month from the school.

This week, a court official approved a prosecutor's request to revoke the Nevada medical license of Dr. Conrad Murray. Murray is the physician that was charged in connection with Michael Jackson's death one year ago.

Georgia Authorities Arrest Murder Suspect

In Georgia, it is reported that authorities have arrested a 30 year old man from South Bend, Indiana. The man, Jermaine Reeves, was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting a 16 year old female four years ago.

Stepfather Charged with Murder

Atlanta Woman Charged with DUI and Homicide

In Atlanta, a 26 year old woman by the name of Christa Scott has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and first degree homicide with a motor vehicle. The Atlanta Police Department also charged Scott with reckless driving.

According to police, last Saturday at 4 AM, Scott was driving with a blood alcohol level that was three times the state's legal limit of 0.08%. New Cell Phone Law to Take Effect on July 1 in Georgia

In the state of Georgia, drivers will have to put their cell phones down and keep their attention on the road. As of July 1^st, a new ban against texting while driving will take effect.

With the new law, drivers will be prohibited from reading, typing or sending texts while they are driving. Drivers are also prohibited from texting while stopped or at a red light.
